## How to make a vCard QR code

1. **Fill in your details** — Name is the only required field. Add a phone number, email, company, job title and website — but every field makes the code denser, so include what people will actually use.
2. **Design the code** — Match your brand colours or add a logo. Keep the code dark on a light background so it scans reliably.
3. **Test, then print** — Scan it with your own phone — you should be offered “Create contact” with every field in the right place. Download SVG for the printer.

## What a vCard QR code contains

A vCard is the standard contact-card format every phone’s address book understands. The code holds it as text — BEGIN:VCARD, your name, number, email and the rest, then END:VCARD — and when a phone scans it, the camera offers to save the contact. Nothing is looked up online, so it works anywhere, with no signal.

The trade-off is size. A QR code grows denser with every character it holds, and a full contact card holds far more than a web link. On a business card, where the code may be only 2–3 cm wide, a dense code is harder to scan in poor light. Keep the fields you include to the ones people actually use, and print the code as large as the design allows.

## When your details change

A static vCard is permanent, which is both its strength and its catch: change jobs, numbers or email addresses and every card you’ve handed out now saves out-of-date details. For most people that’s a matter of when, not if.

A vCard QR Page solves it the other way round. The code encodes a short link — which also keeps the pattern simple, even on a small card — and the link opens a mobile contact page with your photo, social links and a “Save contact” button that downloads your card. ## Print and placement tips

- On business cards, print the code at least 2 cm wide — 2.5 cm if it’s a static vCard with many fields.
- Leave a clear margin around the code (the “quiet zone”); crowding it with text or a border stops phones finding it.
- Add a short prompt next to it, such as “Scan to save my contact”, so people know what it does.
- Also useful on email signatures, conference badges, name tags, and the back of a CV.

**Does a vCard QR code expire?**
